Marie Krøyer (1867–1940) was a Danish painter and designer, best known for her connection to the Skagen Painters, a group of Scandinavian artists who gathered in the coastal town of Skagen, Denmark. Born Marie Triepcke, she was part of a generation of women who pursued formal artistic education, attending the Artists' Study School for Women in Copenhagen, which had just opened in 1885. This environment fostered her early artistic development, and she soon became an accomplished painter.

Marie married the famous Danish painter P.S. Krøyer in 1889, and their relationship quickly became a subject of public fascination. P.S. Krøyer often painted Marie, capturing her beauty in numerous works that contributed to her image as the quintessential muse of the Skagen Painters. Their early years together were marked by creative collaboration, with Marie both painting and posing for portraits. Their daughter Vibeke was born in 1895, further intertwining their lives and work.
