1735-1802 Frankrike
Joseph Ducreux was a rococo painter who today is best known for his self-portraits where he explored human emotions and expressions in a way that was revolutionary for his time. Although his works are sometimes mistaken for caricatures, they are more accurately profound studies of human facial expressions and emotions. At the same time, his portraits differ from the more conventionally serious paintings of the 18th century, making them unique within the genre.
It’s no surprise then that Ducreux’s self-portraits have found a second life online, circulating as memes. This highlights how his playful and experimental artistic style continues to resonate with and engage today’s audience.
