Jorge Manuel Theotocópuli

1578-1631     Spanien

Jorge Manuel Theotocópuli (1578–1631) was a Spanish painter and architect, the son of El Greco. He trained in his father's workshop, and they collaborated on major projects before Jorge Manuel developed his own artistic style.

El Greco didn't only pass on his artistic style and talent to his son, he also left unfinished commissions, including altarpieces for the Hospital de Tavera. Tasked with completing them, Jorge Manuel faced delays and disputes with the hospital, which refused full payment. The conflict escalated into financial struggles, forcing him to sell artworks and eventually leading to the seizure of his property.
