Valentine Cameron Prinsep (1838–1904) was a British painter associated with the Pre-Raphaelite movement. He was born in Calcutta, India, but moved to England as a child. His family settled at Little Holland House in London, which became a gathering place for artists, including many Pre-Raphaelites. Growing up in that creative environment, Prinsep was naturally drawn into their circle.

He studied under George Frederic Watts and later trained in Paris, where he met artists like James Whistler and Edward Poynter. Prinsep became friends with key Pre-Raphaelite figures such as John Everett Millais and Edward Burne-Jones, and traveled with them to Italy. He also worked with Dante Gabriel Rossetti on a mural project at the Oxford Union, deepening his ties to the movement. His paintings often reflected the Pre-Raphaelites' love of rich detail, historical subjects, and romantic storytelling.
